Whupstupikins

Tuesday, May 17, 2016
I didn't have a quick enough title for this post, so I just decided to title it the first thing that came to mind, and that was when Monet jumped on the couch and put her paw on my paper plate that had some toast crumbs on it, and I said "Oh, Whupstupikins!"(pronounced whup-stup-ikins) and gave her my plate to lick clean.

I don't know...I just have this thing for crazy dumb nicknames...

This is Monet right now, going to town on some kind of bone treat thing:

Today is the dreaded "purple scrubs" day. We have two days a week where we all have to wear the same color scrubs, and today is purple. I think purple is an okay color for eyes and hearts and some other things, but not scrubs. I feel totally weird in these scrubs, and no, I won't post a picture because they're that terrible. Actually, here's a pic from right now, looking down, with the key to my heart for all to see. The scrubs in the pic look more blue than purple, but trust me, they are really, really purple.

And throw that on top of a Tuesday, which is usually the most busy and chaotic day of the week, and it's double dread. And Dr. K is on call today, which means I'll be keeping track of the ER remotely from our office on top of doing my other job duties, and that's triple dread, although I do like the excitement of viewing what comes in the ER, even remotely. Last week we had a guy who somehow ended up with pieces of a saw blade embedded deep in his arm. I'll see if I can take a pic of his x-ray later and show you tomorrow.

I just love radiology and x-rays. Sometimes I tell myself I should've went into the college nursing program instead of radiology because it's the same amount of school, and we learn many of the same things, plus even more technical knowledge, but get paid less due to the oversaturation of x-ray techs in the market. Then I kick my own butt to remind myself that I love x-rays, and I should always be doing what I love.

I may not be rich...yet...but I have no regrets, and my family's needs always seem to get met one way or another, and I believe if you do what you love, you're not really "working," but enjoying each day as it comes. I can think of only a few things worse than to be stuck in a job where you hate to wake up each day. I'm so thankful I can go to work and be excited for the day ahead, and when I make someone who is hurting smile, it's just icing on the cake.

And in the office where I work, I am so much more than an x-ray tech. I've been trained in all aspects of orthopedics, and I just love every part of it, from the x-rays to helping the doctors with injections, to casting, to patient education, and even the physical therapy part, although we've recently started sending the e-stim patients to offsite physical therapy because I'm just too busy with my other duties to keep up with e-stims/horizontal therapy, which typically takes up at least 20 minutes an hour during a typical day. With the new PA and all of the new patients we took from an orthopedist who retired, we are slammed, and everyone had to take on new duties, including me. I love it, though, and love being busy during the day. But I also love the rare days like last Wednesday, when my boss and I were able to take a breather and look at an old newspaper.

I still need to make some money for 'boree and for the time I lost at work with my mom's broken hip, so I'm going to be relisting some things on eBay at cheaper prices, and listing some new things that aren't so expensive. I also have some large items I'm going to list on my neighborhood's "For Sale" Facebook page. I've sold more than I expected to, and I'm thankful for that! I still have three almost done paintings, and Joe and Aidan said they'd donate one of their paintings to the cause. So keep an eye out...

Anyway, have a great day!

My Lazy Weekend

Monday, May 16, 2016
I was incredibly lazy this weekend, and it felt good.

Well, Saturday, I wasn't quite as lazy. I took Monet to visit my mom at rehab. It's pretty cool that they allow pets to visit. There's a giant orange cat that roams wherever it wants there, and it just happened to be right in the foyer as Monet, on her leash, came trotting in.

I've never seen a cat hiss like that thing did. Cats are secretly demons, but I saw through this one's magic. Monet did too, because she tucked her tail between her legs and tried to flee, with only the leash preventing mach speed. I was a little unnerved by that hiss; to me it sounded like the last exhale of a person destined to Hell.

Once we were safely in my mom's room, Monet wanted to sniff everything and explore more than she wanted to stay in my mom's lap. That disconcerted my mom a little, because she thinks of Monet as her favorite child, and her favorite child wasn't showing her as much attention as she thought. She started to complain that Monet had forgotten her, and basically spent the time fretting that Monet was dying for water and finally said I should take her home so she could have clean water, as opposed to the water at the rehab, which was "dirty."

Needless to say, my mom doesn't like rehab. I don't really blame her, even though this is the poshest rehab around. She hates everything there, especially their coffee, so she asked me to bring a couple venti coffees from Starbucks, and I think that will be her daily demand for her visit. Aidan gets to fulfill that request today.

Speaking of Aidan...she actually got off work early enough yesterday for us to have a few minutes to chat. She wants yet another tattoo, one that says "little fire," which is the Welsh meaning of her name. She also wants the Montgomery Clan crest like the one my brother showed her while visiting my mom in the hospital. You can vaguely see it in this picture. Our motto is "Garde Bien," which means "Watch Well." The woman in our crest is holding an anchor in one hand, and a severed head in the other. Of course, for my brother's tattoo, the woman is, as he says, "sexed up."

Here's our crest close up with our tartan in the background. I would love to find a cozy flannel shirt with those colors.

Here's another family crest, which seems to have been created by someone with a foreknowledge that some future Montgomerys would end up in Florida:

Anyway, Aidan found a postcard from James on my nightstand and said, "What the heck does 'puh' mean?"

She laughed when I told her it means "precious," and possibly has some other meanings as well. I'll tell you all the cute story of that one day...

So Saturday, I cleaned the house a little, did some laundry, then retired to my room to play some Dragon Age. Monet decided to join me, and kept giving me looks like she blamed me for exposing her to the demon cat.

Then Saturday night, James and I watched a Netflix movie long distance, and texted each other comments about it as we watched. We decided on a movie called Thale. It's a Norwegian film, all subtitled, about two guys (Elvis and Leo) from a crime scene cleaning company who are cleaning some disgusting mess of a liquid human body from some guy's cabin in the woods.

However, it doesn't seem like a good job for poor Elvis, because he pukes for about five minutes in the opening scene while Leo chews gum and watches him in sociopathic silence. When Leo isn't saying "Elvis," which is probably the most often used word in the whole movie, he's stoically chewing gum and scrutinizing things with almost a bored look.

Then they find a woman (Thale) in a bathtub of milk, and she nearly chokes Elvis to death. Leo talks Thale down, and goes about his work, calling in to HQ for some backup and saying he thought they found a "hulder." I thought that was sorta funny for a cleaning company to have an "HQ." While he's doing this, we get a glimpse of something else in the forest, at which James texted an adorable, "wtf."

I replied, "That was her brother." And it turns out I was close. It was her sister, and she had many more, as we found out later.

Thale immediately goes and hides under the bed, and Elvis, despite nearly being killed by her, goes and lies down next to her as she stares at him with wide, confused eyes. Thale is mute, but she starts to hum a little tune, and Elvis responds by humming back, and then Thale reaches out and grabs his face, not to rip the skin off it, but to share her memories. It freaks Elvis out a little, but then he understands. Thale looks like she's about 24 or so, but she's really only five. The now dead old guy mad scientist or whoever has documented her care on cassette tapes, which Elvis plays throughout the movie.

Then they find a severed tail in a little rusty refrigerator. Why the old guy kept it, I don't know.

Then, out of the blue, we learn that Leo has lung cancer, and at points he starts to act ill.

Then all of a sudden, some team in decontamination suits and carrying machine guns show up. For some reason, they tie the two cleaning boys to chairs and put hoods over their heads in the forest. Some older guy talks to them, and seems to know a lot about Thale. Leo is unconscious, presumably from an attack of cancer.

Then Thale kills some of the decon crew, rising up from the milk bath and shoving a machine gun through some guy's body.

Then we see a flashback where Thale is a young girl and takes a handful of dead white flowers and closes her hand. When she opens it, the flowers are alive. I knew then that Leo would be healed, and sure enough, he was.

But before that, Thale's sisters arrive on the scene, looking all hideous and CGI, and murder all the bad guys.

And Leo and Elvis live happily ever after, and Thale goes and wanders the forest without her tail.

So, after the movie, we looked up hulder and found out they're beings from Norwegian folklore, typically super beautiful and seductive mermaid-type women (but they also have tails) who live in the forests. Pretty interesting stuff.

So we had a fun movie night, despite being on opposite ends of the country.

Sunday, I was very lazy, alternately texting with James and playing Dragon Age. This is my DA character. I'm playing a mage this time...

I love my Par Vollen armor. If I can get into this kind of shape by October, it's going to be my Halloween costume.

Anyway, I'm late getting Joe to school. Happy Monday!

I love...Air Conditioning!

Wednesday, April 20, 2016
Ah, the blessed rainbow happiness of AC! As Florida decided to taunt me with it's wicked rising heat and no threat of thunderstorms or even a cloud, Phil the AC guy struggled through the mess in my garage and finally got the part replaced. So, I cranked that new AC all night long and slept like a baby.

Thank you, God, thank you, Phil the AC guy, and thank you, Guy-Who-Thought-of-Air-Conditioning-in-Florida-Way-Back-When! This guy, John Gorrie:

I was happy to see that people are taking an interest in my really terrible painting of the princess staring off into...somewhere. There's a little bidding war going on for that one, which I think is just the best.

Someone else has bid on Junior Aviation Science. Other items are being watched, so I don't know what will happen to them, This ebay thing is very new to me. Thank you to everyone who is bidding and/or watching.

The second I woke up this morning, my mom was up, and complaining about the ghost again. She said last night it was saying "BOOM.....BOOM." I honestly don't know what to think about it, except that she knows the 'boree is coming up and I'll be going out of town, and she's preparing the guilt part of the trip.

I want to say a huge THANK YOU to whoever sent me the new Fennboree map. I got #55 out of 250. That was a very generous and awesome thing to do, and I appreciate it and am very thankful and grateful. I hope you're reading this right now, and wanted you to know I love it. It is a very nice map!

So here's a fun thing...Ramona posted this on her Facebook page, and I thought I'd steal it and use it here, too. If you want to play, feel free to copy and paste in the comments and put your answers!

The Strangest Dream EVER

Wednesday, March 30, 2016
I had the weirdest dream this morning. It was sooo vivid, and just unlike anything I've had before. So the next few paragraphs are going to be a rush to get it down, because I don't want to forget it.

I dreamed I was me, but younger, and not really me. It was like I sort of had my consciousness, but I was someone else too. I dreamed I flew to London, and I have no idea why I went, but I remember landing and saying, "I'm in London!" And I thought I should take a couple quick pics for the blog, which I did.

Now, it gets weird. I go to this hotel, I guess, but it's very large, and sort of dark inside. And it's very old-fashioned, very Victorian, with velvet furniture. It reminded me just a little of an actual place in London I've actually been to, but it definitely wasn't the same place.

I asked the lady at the desk if they had a room available. She said yes, and that they might even have one with air conditioning. I said I would like to see that one. She took me back to this room, and I could see right away, it wasn't like a real room. The walls didn't go all the way up to the ceiling, and I wondered how this room could actually be "air conditioned." It had a single bed, a wooden rocking chair, a wooden dresser, and pretty much nothing else. I remember thinking I didn't want that room because there wasn't a TV. There was a community bathroom with a tin tub, and I was pretty sure I didn't want that.

But before she showed me that room, I recognized the hotel as someplace I had stayed before. I pointed to a room with a closed door to my right. "I've stayed here! I've stayed in that room!"

The lady gave this odd smile, and said, "The Aaron Burr Room?"

And I said, "Yes, I guess so. I stayed in that room."

And she gave that odd smile again. I said, "What? Is that room haunted?"

She didn't answer. Just smiled.

It was then that I became less me, and more this other girl. "I" discovered I had a unique talent. I could "blink" into the dimension of ghosts. That's the only way to describe it. It was like I could sorta hold my breath and I don't even know the word...I want to say "hunker down" with my mind, but that doesn't sound right. The right word might be "push," but that doesn't really describe what you had to do to see the other side.

When you did this, you would physically disappear in the "real" world and appear in the ghost world. The first time I did this was in the big lobby of this hotel.

I saw that it was crawling with ghosts. Just everywhere. It reminded me of a busy train station, and that was an odd thought, because I've never been to a real train station like Grand Central. Now that I'm awake, I want to say it was like an airport.

When I "blinked" back to the real world, a lady had seen me disappear and she ran up to me and grabbed my arm. She said, "Can you ask for..." and she said a name, but I don't remember the name. So I blinked and called out this name. A young woman, about 18 or 20 years old replied, and I swear I'm getting chills writing this. Anyway, this girl approached me, and told me to tell her mom she was at peace.

I blinked back and the mom was waiting expectantly. "She's here," I said, "and she's okay. She's happy."

The woman burst into tears, and I relayed a couple messages back and forth. And the mom was able to finally have some peace, too.

Once I helped that lady, a couple other people wanted me to ask for people on the other side. I was able to find a couple, and a couple weren't there.

Then, it was like I was even less of the real me, and more like someone else, the younger me but not me. And suddenly, my little brother and my mother was there. The little brother reminded me of Joe, but wasn't Joe. But my mother didn't remind me of my mom, but was someone else altogether. She was much older than my own mother would have been when I was twenty. And she was really kind, and just radiated goodness.

And we were in that hotel in London to look for my little sister (who reminded me of Callie, but wasn't Callie), and my father. The weirdest thing about this whole dream was my father, who also was nothing like my father in waking life. I'll describe him in a minute.

So, I blink into the ghost world, and I start calling out my sister's and dad's name. They weren't in that area of the hotel, so we start walking around. I would blink in other areas of the hotel to look, and I would try to do it without any real people noticing.

In another part of the hotel, in an area where the dead side was considerably less crowded, I found my little and sister and dad together.

Now, my dad in the dream is really strange, and makes me wonder how much of this was actually a "dream." I don't know what else it could be, but it was just soooooo bizarre and strange and it was really like this person wasn't me at all.

The dad was a tall handsome black man, but me and my siblings and mom were definitely white. He was wearing a blue button down shirt, and he radiated kindness. I rushed into the arms of my little sister and dad, who apparently had died in this hotel. I want to say in a fire, although they didn't appear burned. They appeared healthy and beautiful.

I told them to wait just a second, and I blinked back and told my mom, who burst into tears. And we stayed at that hotel for awhile, and we were like a family again. I think I taught my mom and brother how to do what I could, so we could all be together.

And they said they stayed at the hotel in the hopes that we would one day come back and look for them. And it was really a happy time.

But one day, while I was walking around in the lobby blinking in and out to learn the stories of the people who died there, I heard a commotion, and a woman was rushed into this medical bay type area, and I couldn't see her face, but I knew in my heart it was my mother. I also knew my mother was no longer in that body, but I watched as the doctor took her pulse, and I could actually feel my mother's pulse slowing until it stopped. I turned around, and my mother was standing behind me. She was smiling and said simply, "Heart attack."

So, now just me and my little brother were alive, but we could blink back and forth. At one point, the five of us were sitting on the couch and my brother and I had blinked into their dimension, and I remember saying how strange it was. My mom said, "All I know is that this is the first time in what seems like forever that we're all together again, and I really like this feeling."

Then we decided to go to Florida, and as we're walking to the airport, we go through a couple touristy areas, and they were places we had visited as a family in the past. There was a lot of reminiscing. At one tourist area, I accidentally blinked to the other side as a girl in a red tourist attraction shirt watched. I realized what I had done, and looked at her, and realized she could still see me, but that she knew something was different, because she was frozen in shock and amazement. But her eyes followed me, so I knew she could see me. I said, "You can see me?"

She nodded. So, I realized other people had the talent, but had not yet discovered how to use it.

At the airport, I needed to find a flight to Daytona with five empty seats, because in the dream, when these ghosts sat down, they took up space. So, they couldn't just float around and sit on people's laps. It was like they were physically real, just in another dimension of the same world. So, I found a pretty empty flight, and bought two tickets for me and my little brother.

We all got on the plane, and found five seats together near the front of the plane. As the plane was taking off, I woke up.

I looked at the clock and was surprised to see it was 5:00 am. I usually wake up at 4:00 or 4:30, but this dream kept me out for an hour longer.

I don't know, but it was a strange feeling waking up and remembering this dream. I know there's a lot we don't understand about dreaming and our subconscious mind, but I wonder why my mind came up with that weird story? Part of it just seemed so...historical. And not being able to remember the names of the dead people is weird. I remember one name had double L's and one started with a "Z."

And the feeling when I called out a name and someone answered was really strange, too.

Maybe my mind was just acting up because all I had time to eat yesterday was toast. It was a crazy busy day.

Anyway, maybe I can write a book about it that'll get made into a movie. Lol.

In other news, yesterday was a crazy busy day. Apparently, just about everyone has the flu and strep throat. One of my coworkers called in sick for the second day in a row, and Tuesday's are usually one of the busiest days, so we were stretched thin. I did a little of her job, my job, and we also had a very angry patient that had yelled at two receptionists, two nurses, and a PA. Since he's scheduled for a surgery next week, the nurse he was currently yelling at came and got me so he could yell at someone else. I asked why he was angry, and she said, "I don't know, but he's angry as a hornet. You might want to take him into your office so other patient's don't hear him." I asked what he was yelling about, and again she said "I don't know. He's just mad. Mad that he had to wait, mad because Bob said something to upset him, I don't know."

So I gathered myself and went out to get yelled at.

But I didn't get yelled at. I took the elderly gentleman back to my office, let him sit down, and I sat down next to him. I concentrated on looking him in the eye. And I just listened to him. It turned out he wasn't really mad at us. He was upset that he had to wait, and upset at the appointment scheduler because the PA told him he'd wanted to see him in a week, but she told him we didn't have anything for three weeks. But his main problem was his insurance, which in his case, is a commercial HMO that has to go through his primary care physician for every visit. I listened to him vent for about twenty minutes, and he was calm and nice.

I sympathized with him, offered him some suggestions, and gave him my card with my extension on it. I told him if he ever needed an appointment, to call me, and I would get him in right away. Before he left, he gave me a hug, which left the staff slack jawed, because they'd decided he was just an angry old grouch. He wasn't--he just needed someone to stop long enough to listen.

Anyway, that made me feel good.

Then I had to go to my doctor appointment about my voice. The doctor said that because my thyroid was so large and difficult to remove, it was expected that my vocal cords would be battered a little, and that it might take some extra time, but my voice should eventually come back. That made me happy, and I went back to work until 6:00, then came home, took a really long bath, then crashed.

Well, this post took a lot longer than I thought, so I've gotta go...looking forward to a somewhat easy day at work, and hope to be home before 3:30! :)

Happy Easter!

Sunday, March 27, 2016
Today was extra special to me, because Aidan got baptized in the ocean at sunrise service on the beach this morning.  I can't even begin to put into words how grateful and blessed I feel. Three years ago, I honestly didn't think Aidan would live to see this day. It's a miracle she's alive, and it's only through Gods mercy and strength that we are a whole family today. We may not have a man in the house, but God completes our family. The man will come in the right timing.

I was surprised to find a box on my porch when I got home Friday...it was a box of oil paints and art supplies, sent anonymously. So thank you, Anonymous. I love them!

The weekend has been dreary and rainy, so no outside workouts. I did do some weights and push-ups and stuff, though.

For Easter dinner, we had BBQ chicken and spaghetti, since I forgot to get stuff from the store. It was still delicious, though!

Now I'm sitting in the bath with highlights in my hair in my gradual process to make my hair blonde again. I would take a selfie, but I don't want to terrify anyone. Lol.

I think Deb posted this on Facebook the other day, so I'll post it instead of a scary pic of me.

I know the reason. Because God loves us. :)

I got nothin' but tatos.

Friday, March 25, 2016
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. Not much is going on.

I started jogging again last night, and am starting workouts in earnest.

I feel really good, and really focused. Now that I'm feeling good, my ADD was starting to get pretty bad, so my Adderall was increased to 30 mg twice a day, and it's made a world of difference.

I even have a new Hot Spot post up. Lol.

The only other thing that's happened is my kids surprised me with dinner last night--a giant soup cup full of homemade mashed potatoes:

They were delicious.

Spring Break

Tuesday, March 22, 2016
It's Spring Break here and it appears like Daytona is trying to steal back the college spring break crown.

First of all, this is a lie:

If you think you're going to relax and soak up some sun this week like the girl in the above picture, think again.

This is reality:

Apparently, the beach here has some magical properties that makes college kids insane and stupid. Oh, wait...that's alcohol.

Anyway, our emergency rooms are bursting at the seams. We have an elderly cancer patient that we've tried to get direct -admitted (so he wouldn't have to wait for hours in pain in a packed ER waiting room) for an impending hip fracture for the last FIVE DAYS, and there are no available beds at the hospital. We were just able to get him in yesterday. My heart breaks for that poor guy, because college kids are idiots, doing idiot things like dislocating each other's shoulders and punching each other in the face.

I need to go back to school to be an ER doctor in Daytona Beach, I think. I'd have all the excitement and money I want. And I'd get to lecture college kids on how their stupidity costs more than what their parents are paying for their ER visit.

I remember going to Daytona Beach on Spring Break in 1987, just out of high school and barely in college. I didn't drink back then, and neither did my friends, so we didn't experience any real insanity. We witnessed other kids being dorks and jerks, but we sort of kept ourselves separated. I remember we were right up by the front of the stage watching a newly popular Bruce Hornsby. I was impressed at how well he was able to play the piano in the midst of chaos.

I just found this picture online of the 1987 Bruce Hornsby Spring Break crowd. Maybe I'm in there somewhere.

Being the introverted person I am, I didn't go to Daytona Beach during Spring Break very often. In fact, that Spring of '87 may have been the last time I've been to Daytona Beach during spring break.

However, I would like to go over there this Sunday, when the crowds are disappearing, with my metal detector, to scoop up all the stuff those kids leave behind.

Not much else is going on. I've got a couple doctor appointments this week, then I should be doctor free for at least a few months. Woo hoo!

I'm looking forward to Fennboree, and really, really hoping I can pull everything together and go. I think it'll be a lot more tame than Spring Break in Daytona Beach, although I'm pretty sure there might be a few people who want to punch me in the face. Once they actually meet me, though, I'm also pretty sure they'll change their mind. I'm a nice person. Really. :)
