....through warm butter...
That's how the Tesla feels to drive. It's steering is so precise, so...amazing. It's more effortless to drive than anything I've ever driven before. And so punchy fast! I took my coworker, Ben (Dr. Kollmer's son), who loves cars, for a ride at work yesterday. He took a video on his phone as we went from 0-60 in what seemed like a heartbeat.
Anyway, I like that car -- a lot -- even though I still think it's too much money to spend on a car. Lol.
Not much other news. I've decided not to post on the blogs anymore, except for Jenny's. I'll still post my ideas and insights on this blog and the Hot Spot, but I won't be posting anything on any of the blogs. It takes the fun out of the chase, and I want to keep on having fun.
James is coming up this weekend to help me continue the moving out process. He's also taking the Tesla to get rims and window tinting put on.
So, nouns, huh? I remember parsing the sentences was part of one of my first solves. It'll take forever to find those notes, but I remember a lot of it, and I can go off that.
If Forrest didn't tell all the truth in that podcast, I can probably safely assume that verbs and adjectives and prepositional phrases and adverbs could be important, too.
I suppose I'll look over those word bitty bites in my spare time and see if I can marry them appropriately. In my head, I've already worked out two marriages. We'll see if the rest fall into place.
Here's something from our friend, Willie Shakespeare, to ponder on today:

I had a mix of scary dreams and good dreams last night, but I can't remember any of them, so all I'm left with is a slightly tired feeling, which is nothing new in the mornings. I remember when I was younger, when I woke up, I was up and bouncing off the walls. Nowadays, I'm just up. Lol.
Well, Fennboree is in a month, and it looks like it'll be a good time. Forrest announced he'll be attending, but it also looks like he thinks it might be a little boring and wants to spice it up. I don't know, Forrest, with some of the different personalities on the blogs lately, it might be pretty interesting. Lol.
Anyway, I've been lallygagging on the blogs this morning, so I've got to get a little exercise in then get ready for work. Have a wonderful day!

James and I had a great weekend!
He came over Friday night, then we got an early start Saturday morning and headed south toward Dania Beach and James's new car. He says it's "our" new car, but that's hard for me to say, since I'm not paying for it. It's easy for me to share things I buy, but hard for me to accept things others buy as "mine." Or "ours." But, this time, I'll make an exception. :) The car is sweet, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Maybe the highlight of the trip for me (or one of many) was a stop along the way in Palm Beach, where I was born and where my grammy and grampa lived forever. It's been over 20 years since I've been to the condo community, but after a wrong turn, we easily found it. I'd visited maybe a million times since I was a baby, and even though the area had grown into a concrete jungle, honing in on a place of fond memories was like finding my way home.
This is the dock where we used to throw bread to the ducks and ducklings.

The complex itself remarkably looks almost exactly the same as I remembered it as a child.
The community is an "over 50" community, and I was a literal-minded child. Sometimes I had a little trepidation if I wandered the property alone, fearing someone would ask me what I was doing there, being under 50 and all. I never considered that grandchildren were probably a common sight.
As we turned into the parking lot, James pulled into the same spot I used to park when I visited with my own car. There was a pickup truck in the spot my grandfather had parked his always new Lincolns or Buicks.
It was fun pointing out all the sweet memories I'd experienced here that helped to shape my life. Like the little area outside where we searched for Easter eggs on many Easter Sundays.
Then we walked to their condo, number 110, which was on the ground floor, on the end.
Memories about that door came flooding back. There is another door next to it--the door into the kitchen. We never used this door--to the hallway. But once we came in through the kitchen, the first thing we had to do was take off our shoes and put them by this door.
This is the window where whenever we left, my grandparents would go and wave to us for what seemed like five minutes. I always had a hard time saying goodbye, so I would wave and wave. Lol. I didn't remember the awning, but it must've always been there, because you can see it in the picture of me and my brother above.
The rear side of the condo was where they had a screened lanai, and I remember waking up early to wait for the bunnies that would come out in the early morning sun. My grandmother would give me a carrot and I'd tiptoe as close as I could get, sit down, offer the carrot, then wait until the bunny would hop tentatively up to eat the carrot from my hand.
This is the dock where we used to throw bread to the ducks and ducklings.
And the lake my grandmother and grandfather would take me for a walk every day. My brothers didn't like those walks, so they never went, but I loved them.
And of course, the pool. There was always a pool.
After our stop on Memory Lane, James and I continued to Dania Beach, where he picked up his custom built, brand spankin' new Tesla.
It's an amazing car, and FAST. James was like a kid in a candy store, and I loved seeing the excitement on his face.
I was shocked and honored that he let me drive it home!
He's already bought matte black rims and a spoiler, which he'll put on this weekend. He's also going to get the windows tinted.
The computer is really cool, and we got to name the car. It's A'Viking, as in "Let's go a'viking!"
We found a hotel, then set out to sightsee a little. We took a short walk on the beach...
I loved the contrast of the blues and green of the crystal clear water...
Then we went to an indoor go cart place and was surprised to see it was like a little pro track. If you've seen professional go cart racing, this was on a slightly smaller scale, but these go carts still went amazingly fast, and the crashes could be pretty intense.
We raced three times, and the first time (well, every time, but mostly the first time), I was too aggressive. I didn't see the sign that said they would limit aggressive drivers. And didn't see the sign that said we were racing for time, not position. James beat me by less than a second, because he was very consistent and steady and didn't get caught up in trying to pass everyone else. On that race, he came in 5th and I came in 6th.
So, on my second race, they limited my car for the first seven (out of 14) laps. It frustrated me, because I had seen the sign by then and knew how to modify my driving. Lol. But I still came in third out of 9 or 10 drivers, and most of those guys looked like they lived there. James came in 5th again.
The third race we were on a different, easier track. There were a lot of people in this race who had never raced before. James was in the first car, so he took off while I was stuck in the herd of slower drivers, and two of them wrecked right in front of me going into a turn (I managed to avoid collision) which made the "referees" stop the race cold. So James won that one easily, and I came in second.
After that workout (we were both red faced and covered in sweat), we went to Dave and Busters to eat, have a drink, and play basketball. James was immediately captivated by the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots we encountered upon entering the arcade.
We played the timed basketball thing, and I won every game (except for one where we tied). I think James just had an off night, because we are usually very close in our scores. Then we saw the thing where you throw the ball at the clowns and try to knock them over. I tried once, and I don't think I hit a single one. Then James did it, and knocked a lot down by just launching these power throws like I don't even know how to describe it. Fast and powerful.
That made me want to try harder, and on my next game I emulated him, and beat his score. Then we played a few more, trading wins. He then got an amazing score of 240, and I knew that would be really hard to beat, but I wanted to try. I failed miserably the first few tries, but then I got a 210. If I had hit one more, I would've tied him. So I had to try one more time, but when I put the card in, we'd run out of credits, so I was forced to concede clown baseball to him.
Anyway, after all the go cart racing and ball throwing, my arms are sore today. Lol. And now it's time to be an adult again and get ready for work.
What a great weekend, though...it was filled with fun and happiness. And Joe was going to go with us, but he went to Disney with his friends. His friend's dad is an "Imagineer" at Disney and they got a VIP sneak peek at a new part of the park that's not yet open to the public. So he had a great weekend, too!

I want to tell you a story of one of the "pets" we had when I was younger...
My story was published in The Rocking Chair Reader (a book about nostalgia and memories that came out about 10 years ago), and you can find a better, more professional version there. It's called Pelican Summer, and it's one of the stories I'm proudest of.
However, the Library of Congress lists my story as being in the Memories from the Attic edition, but I thought my version was in Coming Home. I gave away all my copies years ago, so I guess I'll have to buy both to see which one my story is in. Abe Books has used copies from $2.34.
Instead of me posting a watered down version, why don't you just buy the books and read the good version? Lol. You can buy the books here and here. I got paid a lump sum for my story, so no, I don't receive royalties for this book. Ms. Polaski is a great editor and has compiled some interesting memories from across small town America.
I will say that having a blind white pelican for a day was pretty darn cool. And helping it find a home where it could be safe and protected was a great experience, too. I like to think that pelican chose our family to help it, because he knew we would. :)

That meme is sorta true...even when I'm riding my bike or driving home from work and see wildlife on the side of the road, I find myself saying hello to them.
Here are a couple of Sandhill Cranes I used to see on my morning bike rides:
One great thing about living in Florida is that we have some unique wildlife. When I lived in my condo on Merritt Island, I could stand out on my balcony overlooking our little "cove," and watch the manatees, who were very social. Sometimes I could count as many as twenty.
They would appear in the mornings, and spend the day playing. Not many people realize that manatees are extremely playful. They like to roll, and splash, and make noise by slapping their tails on the water.
Here's Callie sitting on the edge, watching a momma and baby manatee...
And here's one who seems to know he's the subject of the paparazzi:
And here's one giving me either the finger or a final "wave" before he leaves the cove for the day. I think he was waving.
Animals are just the best...don't you think?

Yesterday, Aidan called me at work screaming in pain. I told her to go to the ER, and that I'd meet her there. But first I had to pick up Joe at Daytona State where he was taking an AP exam. So I went and we waited in a jam packed ER for over an hour, and there were several people still ahead of us, some retching terribly. It was like a zombie apocalypse.
Aidan started to get hungry and seemed to start feeling better. She gets really bad cramps every month, but these seemed different to her. She decided she didn't want to wait any longer, so she said she'd make an appointment with a gynecologist in the morning. I was more concerned about an ectopic pregnancy than anything, but I think that would be more constant pain, so I said that would be okay if she wanted to go home.
But last night at 1:30 am, she called again, crying in pain. She didn't think she could drive, so I picked her up and we went to Halifax this time, and she was seen right away. They gave her some medicine, which helped, and gave her a prescription of Motrin 800. She has endometriosis (and yes, she gave me permission to post this--all her friends know), and the ER doctor said she should get on birth control because that would help the monthly pain.
I'm just glad nothing is seriously wrong.
So, I'm a zombie right now after not sleeping last night. And today is one of the busy days at work. Yaayyyy...
Anyway, time to start getting ready for what looks like a long day...I need some Coke Zero to get me started. Lol.
While searching for "anime zombie" on Google, I found this pretty accurate representation of a cat, who has the amazing freakish ability to speak Japanese:
Yeah, that's terrifying.
And oh yeah! I just remembered this awesome SpaceX landing yesterday! Beautiful!
Have a great day!

We had another nice weekend...
James came over Friday, and Saturday, we were going to go to St. Augustine with some friends, but James and I were sorta lazy, and ended up watching a movie instead on pay per view. We watched Interstellar, which made me secretly cry in one spot. It was strange, but when Dr. Brandt died, it reminded me of when my mom died.
Yesterday we took Joe to Cold War Escape Room nearby in Ormond Beach. It was a lot of fun. We chatted a bit with Griffin, the owner, who did a marvelous job on the game and the effects. It was really cool and really fun.
We missed escaping by about 45 seconds because I am too literal. Lol. To get to the nuclear abort button, you had to turn off the light and shine a UV light on the side of a podium. Then you'd see a circle with the word "START" in it and above it an arrow drawn to another circle. You were supposed to put this magnetic thing on the start and slide it upward to the second circle, which would start the podium moving up to reveal the last key to the last lock to press the abort button.
Well the size of the magnetic cup was exactly the size of the circle, so I'd start the cup exactly in the bottom circle and move it exactly up the line to fit exactly in the top circle, and it didn't work. Over and over and over...lol.
Finally, Griffin, who was watching on closed circuit TV and mentally screaming at me to just go a little higher, called in and said that over time, the magnet inside the podium had gotten a little off, and I'd need to slide it a little higher than the circle.
So I did as he said, and the timer buzzed as the podium raised. So, it was my fault we didn't escape, but we had a lot of fun.
For lunch, we went to Cracker Barrel and while waiting for the hostess to call our name, we browsed and then bought a few cool little toys. James captured my delight as I found a unicorn light saber...
James was standing above me, so you can't actually see my delight, but trust me, it was there. :)
James bought me a couple chocolate eggs, which I thought had little Star Wars people inside like Jedi chicks. But, alas, I suppose that would pose a choking hazard, and I should have read the box more literally: it says "Milk Chocolate & Surprise."

Still, the choking hazard label would make one think the surprise was actually in the egg. But it wasn't. Anyway, I got an X-Wing fighter pilot and Kylo Ren. Lol. Joe got a gyroscope, and James got a little mineral/rock thing. I haven't eaten the chocolate yet.
Anyway, time to get ready for the day!
