Tomorrow, James and I are going either hiking at the nature preserve with metal detector in hand. I'm going to search for pythons, now that I've heard Collier County is infested with them, or we're going to the beach, with metal detector in hand.
After that, I'm going to start my next "art" project, to make this Viking Shield. We watched a really cool "how to" video, and it doesn't look that hard. I'm hoping to at least get the shape cut out this weekend...
We got our Viking axes in the mail yesterday, and I have to admit, I very much like the weight of it in my hand. James doesn't want me swinging around these "display pieces," so I ordered my own Viking axes. Yes, plural. Lol. I ordered a training axe, a throwing axe, and one razor sharp bearded axe from Viking-Shield. You can find their online shop here, and it's very interesting with all kinds of Norse merchandise. And another website has a blog that's very informative about my ancestor's and tells the history behind Ragnar, Aslaug, and Latgerta. You can find that blog here.
For those new to my blog, I am supposedly descended from Aslaug and Ragnar. Lagerta was Ragnar's second wife. Aslaug was probably the third wife. Both Aslaug and Lagerta were shield maidens, and Aslaug came from fabled royalty--her father was Sigurd Ring, and her momma was Brynhilder, probably the most famous shield maiden of all.
And here is my family tree...lol
And you know how you'll be a natural at something before you even try it? That's how that axe felt in my hand. Like a natural extension of me. I can't wait to be axe wielding perfection. Lol.
Have a great weekend!

Hmmm, another of your relatives? She had a penchant for axes, also. Striking resemblance there, especially the look in the eyes.
