Planting a tree...

Thursday, May 18, 2017
Dal put up a new post about planting a tree in honor of Forrest. I think that's a good idea, but not just because it honors a man, but honors the earth, our home. Making more oxygen is a good thing!  And like the practice of giving salt to a stranger, planting a community of trees is a sincere gesture of friendship. I think the chase has inspired many friendships, and Forrest's list of friends has grown exponentially over the last several years.

I'm going to have to think about the tree I plant, though, and where I'm going to plant it. I'm moving soon, so I won't plant it at the home I'm in now. I may plant it at the one place I'm most fond of calling my home thus far -- a place in Merritt Island, FL. I'll see if I can make that happen.

One thing that's occupying my spare time is studying the words in the poem as they're written--meaning the part of speech they're used as in the poem. Very interesting to see how many have gone wrong! For example, and I know many of you already know this, but "down" in both instances of the poem, is a noun. So, not a direction or depth at all.

I've parsed the poem in the early days of my chase, but I've lost all the notes in the thousands of notes I've taken, so I had to start over, and I think this time, I got different results from applying the knowledge I've gained since then. And as I study the word meanings in depth, I'm seeing the "recipe" or "instructions" (use whatever word you want), in a new light. It'll be interesting, and maybe surprising, to see where this sidewalk ends. :)

Mindy, wasn't it about a year ago you were a weekend from going and getting the treasure? You remember...posts about experimenting with stuff to create new stuuf, ingredients and recipes etc?
    What happened...??

I may be wrong, but I don't think I ever said I was "a week away." I think I said that I knew the method, but it was time consuming and involved effort. Unfortunately, my mom was quickly slipping away, and family will always come first.

Since then, I've been tweaking the "method." I still think a recipe of sorts is involved, but at the same time, it's no secret that I'm distracted pretty easily.

Human nature is prone to doubt, and after many distractions, I began to doubt parts of my solve. However, with the recent SB's and especially the recent podcast, I'm beginning convinced that my method was pretty much right, but needed a couple of adjustments.

Hopefully my location will be pinpointed before Fennboree, but one thing I had already known but sometimes forgotten in this chase is that nothing in life is guaranteed.

However, I'm still very confident in my method, but I also hold fast to the belief that the chase should be fun. I've always said that the day it becomes a chore or not fun is the day I stop searching. So, the chase is not my sole purpose in life. I have other hobbies that are just as fun. I have family and friends and loved ones to create memories with, and that takes up a majority of my spare time.

I guess it all boils down to timing. If I'm meant to find the treasure, I'll find it when the time is right. If I don't, that's okay, too, and simply means I was t meant to find that particular treasure.

With me, life is precious. Time is precious. Time itself is a treasure I can give everyday to those I love. :)
