India and More

I really don't like Monday mornings.

But the weekend was pretty decent, because I painted. I know I'm not good at it, but I don't care, because there's a whole genre of art that my work fits into: folk art. And I'm finding it to be a very therapeutic hobby.

Anyway, I listed a few things on eBay yesterday. I listed a folk art seahorse painted by my friend, K. If the price seems a little high, it's because she's a REAL artist, who sells her work in galleries in Miami and elsewhere for thousands of dollars. This piece is a steal... and you can find the listing here.

And here's an owl I painted this weekend. A lot of people think "if you've been wise..." may have something to do with an owl, and the owl is a powerful symbol in Native American folklore. So, I painted one. I like to blend colors, and I think this one isn't too bad...

If you would like to help out a struggling single mom make up a little from income lost taking days off to care for my mom, you can find the listing here. K has also donated her painting to help out, and she will split the sale of her painting with me.

And then, I painted my interpretation of The Little Girl from India. I thought it was pretty funny. If you want to buy this little piece of chase history, you can bid on it here.

And I think I'm ready to sell "Love Story," although I do want to touch it up a little. I'll even out the dark spots and make sure the  color is uniform. You can find the listing here.

Tesuque isn't quite done, but I hope to have him listed, as well as a few other trinkets and baubles, by tonight or tomorrow.

Have a great day!

    Do you find this funny?

India is home to more than 400 million children, the highest in the world.

On average, almost 2 million children die annually before they reach the age of 5 years.

79% of children under 3 years suffer from anemia.

There are over 12 million child laborers.

Girls from 7-14 are sold by their families into prostitution for only $32.

Child prostitutes earn one dollar a day and receive no part of the earnings.

Of course, the suffering of any children, no matter where they live, saddens me.

This painting is a reference to a question posed to Forrest Fenn on Jenny Kile's blog, Mysterious Writings. It's a hypothetical child, and Jenny picked India off the top of her head. It could have been a child in any foreign country, or even Texas.
This little hypothetical girl has access to a computer or some other means of acquiring the poem that leads to a treasure in the Rocky Mountains. She also has access to a map of the Rocky Mountains, so it might be safe to assume this fictitious little girl has a certain amount of freedom and enough money/education to attempt to solve the poem.
Of course, my painting is strictly related to this hypothetical question and in no way exploits the suffering of real children in India or elsewhere.
I assume you were not aware of the question and the treasure hunting uproar this theoretical child caused, so forgive me for not explaining better.
